Montana Campus Corps - Stipended

The mission of Montana Campus Corps is to actively engage college students in meeting community-identified needs through meaningful service.  Each year, the program places and supports a number of stipended Campus Corps members at higher education institutions around the state to involve other college students in civic engagement by coordinating efforts to meet critical community needs. Campus Corps members take leadership roles on MTCC member campuses with the intent of fostering a sense of civic responsibility and commitment at each institution.  Montana Campus Corps is an affiliate of the AmeriCorps National Service Network, and is one of four AmeriCorps Programs in the state and one of 400 programs nationwide which are "Getting Things Done for America's Communities." member reading to children

Examples of Montana Campus Corps service initiatives include:

  • Tutoring and mentoring programs for children and youth
  • Projects assisting with housing for low-income families
  • Community food bank projects
  • Summer campus and enrichment activities for at-risk youth
  • Mentoring incarcerated youth
  • Coordinating volunteer recruitment efforts for non-profit agencies

To get a better idea of some specific initiatives that Campus Corps members are engaged in across the state, see the Newletters section of this page.

Stipended members receive a modest living allowance during their service term and earn an Education Award that may be applied toward tuition or to pay off an existing college loan.  Most service terms with Montana Campus Corps begin in the fall.

Campus-Based Supervisors

Campus-Based Supervisors are staff or faculty members at member institutions who act as local liaisons for Campus Corps members. These people hire, supervise, and coordinate the stipended Campus Corps members who are placed at campuses to engage in the local communities.  All program information flows through the Campus-Based Supervisors; often the Campus-Based Supervisor is the institution's Community Service Director.
