Serving-learning is a teaching tool that combines rigorous coursework with community-based service. It offers students an opportunity to interact and learn from communities while putting their knowledge into practice. Service-learning provides students with relevance, employment skills, and opportunities to grow their civic and social responsibility.
Campus Compact supports service-learning in a number of ways:
1) Service-Learning Professional Development Workshops. Several events are held annually and help convene, train and build networks among staff, faculty and administrators committed to advancing higher education's public purposes. Contact Andrea Vernon for more information on the next Workshop!
2) Regional and National Conferences. Every year, Campus Compact hosts either a national or a regional gathering. In Montana, we support the Continuums of Service conference, which happens April 6-8, 2017 in Denver, Colorado.
3) Campus Compact maintains a robust database of service-learning syllabi. That database can be found on our national website, compact.org.
4) MTCC maintains a library of service-learning books and resources, information on that can be found here on mtcompact.org
