ANACONDA

Anaconda Family Resource Center: The Anaconda Family Resource Center’s mission is to ensure all families receive the basic skills, education, support, and encouragement necessary for the development of healthy families. As a Summer Associate, you will help increase participation in the Summer Feeding program by providing outreach and researching potential ways to increase participation. You will also explore the feasibility of beginning a mobile program and look into other potential grants to incorporate activities at the mobile sites in the community park. Service activities will include: researching marketing tools used by other agencies providing meals to children and adults; designing marketing tools to be used locally; using materials to market program to community; and providing these materials to parents/youth at feeding sites. BIGFORK

Bigfork ACES: Bigfork ACES’ vision is to encourage each child to pursue and achieve their highest personal potential. Serve with Bigfork ACES as a Summer Associate to: create a community summer newspaper and awareness for ACES through participation in the Village Market and our garden produce; help manage ACES ice cream vending cart; produce a model for three projects that can be used in future years; and develop an online presence that will improve awareness of what Bigfork ACES does and accomplishes through their meals program and activities. You also will engage in community events and create relationships with potential partners who will be able to help sustain ACES and their work with low-income families and the meals program; engage students in developing an ACES cookbook with healthy meals that meet the state requirement and kids enjoy to eat; and help maintain the summer garden and represent ACES at the weekly Village Market. BILLINGS

MSU-Billings Upward Bound: MSU-Billings Upward Bound’s mission is to assist low-income, first-generation college-bound high school students in the successful completion of secondary education and to prepare them academically and socially for enrollment and completion of higher education. Serve as a Summer Associate to plan and implement weekly educational, creative, and athletic activities to engage students; document student participation in weekly activities; meet weekly with a team of 8-9 students leading team building, communication, and leadership opportunities; and help students develop and follow through on a meaningful SMART goal for the summer. You will also complete the StrengthsFinder evaluation and assist students with matching their talents with engaging careers, and prepare students before visiting colleges to learn about cost, potential majors, and other pertinent information. Billings Family YMCA: The mission of the Billings Family YMCA is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Serve here as a Summer Associate to aid in the implementation of the Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program, a 6-week program that offers free summer reading and enrichment for children from low income environments entering 1st-5th grades. Service activities will include: assisting with teaching literacy to students; helping plan and leading enrichment activities for students; and aiding the teacher on field trips- this will include activities at the Billings Family YMCA and in the Billings community. Rocky Mountain College: The AmeriCorps member will provide various opportunities for Rocky students to mentor and inspire elementary age students while learning about the value of civic engagement. Through the Bears and Cubs program of one on one mentoring the team will enhance the programming to focus on college access using college student mentors. The mission of Rocky Mountain College Office of Community Engagement is to encourage lifelong dedication to community service and shared responsibility. One of the ways RMC intends to carry forth that mission is to develop an AmeriCorps team that will focus on the College’s initiatives towards improving College Access, College Positive Mentoring and K-12 Student Success. BOZEMAN/GALLATIN VALLEY

Human Resource Development Council 1X: HRDC is a 501(c)3 non-profit Community Action Agency providing programs and services in the areas of housing, food and nutrition, child and youth development, senior empowerment, transportation, energy assistance, and community development. As a Summer Associates, you will will play an integral role in preparing and providing support to their twelve meal sites through Gallatin County. This includes meal prep and production, record keeping, meal service, site supervision, and volunteer support. Service activities will include: canvassing neighborhoods, especially those with a high number of low-income families, to distribute information about the summer meal program; delivering flyers/materials to a variety of local businesses/services; distributing, collecting, and analyzing surveys to Summer Meal participants and to community members. You will also learn the ins and outs of a kitchen, including food safety, quantity food production, and USDA Meal Requirements while preparing meals for summer meals sites and working closely with volunteers to ensure proper food production. Bozeman Public Library: The Bozeman Public Library’s mission is to create opportunities that inspire curiosity, exploration and connection. The Bozeman Public Library and the Bozeman school system will collaborate this summer to ensure student success in the coming school year by providing access to age- appropriate books over the summer months as well as offering additional programs (such as the summer reading program) geared toward student success. Serve as a Summer Associate to help give students the tools to educationally thrive and thus live outside poverty through increased academic success. As a service member, you will support the library staff by planning and implementing programs for school children. This will include hands-on activities related to science, technology, art, engineering and mathematics. (STEAM). Gallatin Valley YMCA (Literacy Enhancement): Gallatin Valley YMCA (GVYMCA) is a cause-driven inclusive organization of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurture the potential of every child and teen, improve our community’s health and well-being, and by giving back and providing support to our neighbors. Serve here as a Summer Associate to work with youth one-on-one as well as in a group setting on how they can participate in positive social interactions- focusing conversations on our core values of honesty, respect, caring and responsibility. You will also work with YMCA staff to create opportunities for families to connect and engage with their children in a social capacity through regular “family nights”; implement daily lessons on the above subjects focusing on making learning fun; and work with the licensed teachers to connect enrichment activities with reading lessons to provide a holistic learning environment for youth. Gallatin Valley YMCA (STEM): Gallatin Valley YMCA (GVYMCA) is a cause-driven inclusive organization of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurture the potential of every child and teen, improve our community’s health and well-being, and by giving back and providing support to our neighbors. Serve here as a Summer Associate to create and implement age-appropriate STEM activities in accordance with the weekly theme for groups of 24-36 kids at up to 9 different locations of summer camps and programs around the Gallatin Valley. Each week the projects will include chemistry, entomology, engineering, plant science paleontology, earth science or other scientific fields. You also will be responsible for planning, organizing and hosting an annual Invention Competition where youth are welcome to create and present an invention in one of half-a-dozen STEM related categories. Montana Tech: The AmeriCorps members will collaborate with the AmeriCorps Leader as well as the administration and staff of local partner organizations to promote and facilitate college positive activities serving first-generation, low-income students. The Institute for Educational Opportunities at Montana Tech is a consortium of programs developed to provide K-12 and college students with the tools and support they need to achieve success in higher education. GREAT FALLS

Sunburst Unlimited: Sunburst Unlimited’s mission is to educate and guide youth, organizations and communities in developing a sustainable local food source, highlighted by the Westside Orchard Garden. As a Summer Associate, you’ll serve with their Summer in the Garden Program. Service activities will include: coordinating transportation of snacks from the nearby Food Bank to the Westside Orchard Garden, helping lead activities from garden curriculum kits on pollinators, composting, plant biology, nutrition and other STEM topics, and mentoring 160-200 underserved youth (k-7) in growing, eating, harvesting, preparing and serving their own fresh produce from their 2-acre garden on city park land. GetFit Great Falls, Inc.: GetFit Great Falls promotes the benefits of healthy lifestyles to the citizens of Great Falls and Cascade County through a unified community effort that encourages cultural and system change. As a Summer Associate, you’ll research kid-friendly activities that can be done outdoors and that incorporate knowledge of Native American history and culture. You will also build a calendar of activities for June, July and half of August; gather needed supplies; and reach out to neighborhoods where activities are planned to share information about Park Pals program and planned activities. You will be going to four to five sites for an hour each week day and coaching children to complete each planned activity; taking sack lunches from the food truck to parks and giving them to kids who are participating in planned activities; and sharing information about school district’s summer food program and schedule. Boys and Girls Club Cascade Count Boys and Girls Club of Cascade County (BGCC)’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those most in need, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Serve as a Summer Associate to help increase access to fresh, healthy meals when school is not in session to all children 18 and under; coach youth in how to grow their own produce; assist cooks and youth in developing fresh food recipes and prepare meals utilizing gleaned produce; conduct a variety of outreach activities to ensure maximum community participation; and engage with kids and families at meal sites, and work to create a stigma-free, fun environment. Boys and Girls Club Cascade County – Brain Gain: Boys and Girls Club of Cascade County (BGCC)’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those most in need, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Serve as a Summer Associate to assist the Academic Success Program Coordinator with summer learning loss prevention efforts through the implementation and facilitation of Brain Gain, our summer learning loss prevention program. Service activities will include: utilizing the outdoor classroom at Westside Orchard Gardens and other identified areas to facilitate summer learning loss prevention and STEM activities for Club members and community youth served by other organizations; reaching out to identified organizations with dates and times of outreach activities and invitations for the youth they serve to participate; and tracking data related to outreach efforts and other youth served. Bitterroot Public Library: The mission of Bitterroot Public Library is to provide equal access to quality library services, programming, and activities to support lifelong learning to residents from all walks of life. Serve here as a Summer Associate to provide children and families with quality programs and activities that are free and easy to access through the public library. Service activities will include: planning and implementing educational events and activities for children and their families; evaluating and refining activities and resources through forms and participant engagement to better meet the educational needs of individual learners in the community; developing a position description and tasks for a permanent part-time Youth Services Associate at the library; refining description and duties following event and activity evaluations; working with other community organizations to bring collaborative educational programs to children; review offerings by other organizations and advisory groups; and planning and implementing programs with other organizations. MAPS Media Institute: The AmeriCorps member will assist MAPS AmeriCorps Leader with planning community college night and with reaching out to Admissions Offices of Montana Colleges. Members will development and distribute a College Visit Checklist for students to refer to while visiting colleges. Helena YMCA: The Helena Family YMCA is committed to meeting the needs of the Helena community in the education arena. Helena YMCA currently operates a successful Day Camp program, and has implemented STEM programs, library cards, and creative exercise while advancing the learning of core values. Serve as a Summer Associate to assist certified teachers in the implementation and facilitation of the reading curriculum; guide the academic and social development of children ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy environment; and assist the Site Director in the planning, implementation and facilitation of enrichment curriculum and activities including introducing skills in arts, music, physical activity, character development, STEM, nutrition education, and family engagement. ExplorationWorks: ExplorationWorks Science Center’s mission is to ignite a lifelong love for science to enrich Montana’s future. ExplorationWorks offers hands-on exhibits, programs, workshops, classes, and camps for kids and families, as well as school and community groups. Serve as a Summer Associate to deliver hands-on STEM programming to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds; track student interest in STEM careers as the summer progresses; and increase the visibility of ExWorks by attending community events and partnering with community organizations in delivering hands-on STEM programming. You also will work to promote the Family Access Membership program, which helps increase access to the science center for economically disadvantaged families, with the goal of increasing membership in the program by 10 families; actively promote and recruit for volunteer opportunities at ExplorationWorks; and provide support for the current volunteer program. Boys & Girls Club of Flathead & Lake County: The AmeriCorps member will help support summer programing. Summer programs are 10 weeks, Monday – Friday, 8AM – 6PM. There is the potential for some of the activities to occur in the evenings or overnight (if taking a campus tour further than a day trip). Veterans Stand Down: The Northwest Montana Veterans Stand Down & Food Pantry (VSD) is dedicated to providing a “helping hand up”, to homeless, low-income and at-risk veterans and their families. Serve as a Summer Associate to help develop ground work to be used at Camp Ponderosa, which will be a retreat and learning center to assist veterans with addressing the challenges, fears, and stigma that they face during and after they have served in our Armed Services. Service activities will include: researching and identifying how to engage veterans to encourage them to attend the classes; producing flyers and outreach materials; scheduling classes and coordinating with volunteers on frequency of the classes to be offered; creating a calendar of monthly Resume Lab classes; creating informational flyers; and determining the most visible locations to post the flyers. Community Food and Agriculture Coalition: Community Food and Agriculture Coalition (CFAC) aims to increase the production and consumption of Montana-grown foods, so that everyone has local food, farmers are successful, and farmland is in active production. Serve with them as a Summer Associate and work to make more Montanans aware of the Double SNAP Dollars program and where to access its benefits. Service activities will include: providing brochures and/or trainings about Double SNAP Dollars to targeted organizations in Missoula; maintaining detailed and accurate records of which organizations have received materials and any feedback that organizations provided about the materials or program; and organizing one or more visits to farmer’s market vendors at the beginning of the season to remind them of DSD rules. Flagship: The AmeriCorps member serving with Flagship will aid in volunteer recruitment, program documentation, student mentorship, and the facilitation of after-school programming. International Rescue Committee: The AmeriCorps member will serve with schools, childcare facilities, and after-school and summer camp providers like the YMCA to develop orientations for refugee families to educate families on guidelines, logistics, and fees. Missoula Food Bank: In serving this summer to help run their Summer Meal Service Program, you will play a vital role in making good, healthy food accessible to all kids in Missoula through the summer months. In Summer 2019 Missoula Food Bank will expand its lunch efforts to include Lolo School and the Missoula Public Library to connect the community with additional resources and educational content. The Summer Member will primarily focus on these two sites, helping to provide support to volunteers, managing required paperwork, and making the sites engaging, educational and fun for participants. Montana Natural History Center: Montana Natural History Center (MNHC)’s mission is to promote and cultivate the appreciation, understanding, and stewardship of nature through education. Serve with them as a Summer Associate to provide support and assistance for MNHC’s Summer Outdoor Discovery Day Camps program, in order to increase and improve its capacity to improve school readiness and move children and families in the Missoula area out of poverty. You will work within the preschool-kindergarten summer camps, assisting camp instructors, leading and potentially developing lessons, and serving as a role model and mentor for early learners. YWCA of Missoula: YWCA Missoula’s mission is to eliminate racism and empower women and to promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people. GUTS! (Girls Using Their Strengths) is a unique, community-based leadership and empowerment program designed by and for young women, ages 9 to 19. The GUTS! mission is to support young women in discovering their strengths, developing their leadership skills, and using their voices to activate positive community change through mentoring, small group discussion, outdoor challenges, skilled-building workshops, and community action projects. Serve as a Summer Associate to plan activities exposing girls to skilled trades during each of the five camps; confirm existing and new partnerships with individuals and organizations for the Outdoor Adventures; work with staff to plan and implement training for high school leaders in wilderness safety, navigating with a map and compass, leave no trace ethics, satellite phone and GPS usage; and work with trained youth leaders on passing along the skills learned to younger participants. You will also work with a current climate change intern to implement a climate change component to each trip, integrate place-based education, including Native American history and culture, on each trip; and develop and lead STEM educational activities related to animal tracking, plant identification, watershed education, Global Positioning Systems (GPS) training, orienteering and reading maps. ZACC: The AmeriCorps member will work directly with youth in our summer programs that are designed to increase confidence, creativity, social responsibility, and community investment- all things that are proven to increase youth’s chances at pursuing a college education. As a nonprofit arts community center providing facilities and expertise, the Zootown Arts Community Center (ZACC) delivers all ages arts education, fosters sustainable community development, and promotes accessible, life-enriching art experiences for Missoula residents and visitors. Salish Kootenai College Upward Bound: The SKC Upward Bound Program provides low-income and first-generation high school students with the skills and motivation necessary for success in postsecondary education. Upward Bound is the only residential college preparatory program on the reservation, and the only program providing students an opportunity to earn high school and college credit during the summer component.Serve here as a Summer Associate to assist students in completing and submitting coursework and related activities; engage students in career exploration and academic workshops throughout the summer; assist and provide leadership to students completing community service hours; work with participating organizations to fulfill the service objective; engage students with SKC staff and faculty through department activities in a range of fields; and encourage students to explore and discuss college preparatory interests and plans throughout the summer. Richland Boys & Girls Club: The AmeriCorps member will support first generation, low income youth through academic mentoring, civic engagement, and the promotion healthy lifestyles at the Boys & Girls Club.
